Practice philosophy: "The needs of the patient come first" was the primary value of my surgical training and has allowed me to forge strong relationships with my patients rooted in trust. I am a firm believer in overcommunication with my patients and ensuring that they have a voice in their health care decisions. As a surgeon, I have a strong dedication to my craft in order to give patients the utmost confidence in their care.
What are you passionate about and why? Professionally, I am passionate about healthcare quality improvement, hearing rehabilitation (cochlear implantation), nasal breathing (septorhinoplasty and sinus surgery), head and neck cancer care, and global health. Personally, I am passionate about being outdoors with my family.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I would pursue a career outdoors as a sailing instructor or working for the National Park Service.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Forming strong relationships with my patients is paramount. I enjoy learning about their interest and hobbies, their families, and how they like to spend their time outside the office.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? The best thing I have done for my health was marry a dietitian and own a golden retriever. Good health is essential to happiness, and happiness is an essential to good citizenship. — Charles Mayo
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my family. I have a beautiful wife and two daughters as well as a golden retriever. Both our families live in the Twin Cities and we look forward to raising our kids in this community.
What are a few of your personal achievements? During my chief resident year at Mayo Clinic, I was awarded Top Performing Provider (99th percentile score for "likelihood to recommend provider") and Chief Resident Teacher of the Year.
