Joleen Hubbard, MD

Practice philosophy: My goal is to provide excellent, comprehensive care for cancer patients in a caring and compassionate manner. My philosophy is to utilize the entire care team and partner with patients and families to determine and deliver the best management strategy that meets the goals and needs of the individual patient.

What are you passionate about and why? I am very passionate about clinical research. Clinical trials provide patients with the opportunity to receive treatment that is potentially better than the standard of care. Through clinical research we continue to make progress in developing more effective, better tolerated cancer therapies.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? An actress

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? My interest in medicine began in high school biology. As a pre-med student at Gustavus Adolphus College, I spent a January term shadowing physicians which inspired my interest in oncology.

What is something you have learned from your patients? As my relationships with cancer patient develop and they share their life experiences with me, I find they often provide me with the perspective of what really matters in life.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? I enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team to explore all avenues to provide the best possible outcomes for patients.

What is your personal health goal? To continue to make healthy lifestyle choices so I can be physically active well into late adulthood.

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? To remember to take care of myself so I am in the best position to take care of others.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud to be the mother of two amazing, bright and talented children.

What are a few of your personal achievements? Obtaining research grants for a colorectal cancer clinical trials.
