Practice philosophy: My goal has always been to provide exceptional care to women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds . I have always wanted to utilize the best medical science available in conjunction with genuine sensitivity for the needs, issues and concerns of each patient. I consider my patients family and my intentions is to treat them with the same degree of respect and understanding I would like to receive. I strive to provide attention to detail for each woman during all stages of their lives.
What are you passionate about and why? I am passionate about my obstetrical patients and challenging gynecological cases involving enlarged fibroid uteri. I also love my pediatric and sassy adolescent population. I also enjoy caring for my older more mature patients undergoing the change of life.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Pop/Country Singer.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I decided to become physician at age 8 when my pediatrician saved my life. I had multi-lobar pneumonia and there was concern I would not make it. I was " The Girl in the Bubble' for over a month.
What is something you have learned from your patients? My patients have taught me to continue being who I am , down-to-earth easy to speak to and firm with my recommendations and decisions.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? The living on the edge nature of this specialty is what attracted me to OB-GYN specialty in the first place. Multitasking is the ultimate characteristic needed to be successful in this specialty.
What is your personal health goal? I hope to bike in a 100 mile road race!!
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? I work-out 5-6x per week and drink lots of water. Remembering to eat and not go on prolonged fasting sessions is the best I can do for myself and recommend for others.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of being the first African American Female Physician to deploy on an aircraft carrier ( USS JOHN C STENNIS CVN 74) while on active duty in the United Staes Navy.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I have completed 6 full marathons.
I performed the National Anthem at least 10 times for Change of Command Ceremonies and Retiree Ceremonies while on active duty in the United States Navy.
