What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about empowering people through education. So many illnesses of old age are related to lifestyle and there are so many things we can do when we are empowered to make better choices. These better choices will affect not only lifespan but quality of life, also known as health span. The evolving science of longevity is so encouraging.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: an author or a boutique owner. An author because I love the idea of dedicating hours and hours over months to years developing characters to tell meaningful stories that shine light on the complexities of the human experience. A boutique owner because I would love to be surrounded by the creativity of others in the form of books, jewelry, candles, cards, artwork, etc.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I became a healthcare provider because while I recognized it required hard work and sometimes physical labor when working in the hospital, I saw the value in committing to a lifetime of helping others and I find the body fascinating.
Something I have learned from my patients is: My patients have taught me that to have the best outcome, one has to be gentle with himself, believe in himself, be motivated to look fear in the face and embrace what control he has and step into his power.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): I enjoy digging deep into each patient’s story to learn where we can make the biggest impact on his or her health.
My personal health goal is: Incorporate regular morning meditation. It is so important to proactively set the tone for your day. Meditation can do this and so much more. Another goal is to do my best to maintain my muscle as I age - this has a clear link to longevity.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? Best advice: listen to your gut. Best habit: Regular meditation, when I am practicing it regularly, has been the most helpful thing I’ve ever done for my health.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of how my curiosity and tenacity has helped guide my career.
