What is your practice philosophy? My goal is to make sure I’m not just telling patients what to do. I want everyone to feel heard. I try to make sure my patients understand “why” behind what treatment we’re choosing and that this is a shared decision making process.
Hometown: Minneapolis
What are you passionate about? And why? I’ve always been incredibly passionate about quality of life and the relationship with health. I’m a firm believer in that the decisions we make about our health and habits we form can set us up for a fuller and richer life.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: Teacher - being a college professor was my back-up plan if I didn’t get into medical school, I love learning and interacting with people and teaching people new things always brings me joy.
Why did you become a provider? I decided I wanted to be a physician sometime during freshman year of college, I always loved science but I talk way too much to spend my life in a lab so the I found myself at the intersection of sciences of taking care of people. Ob-gyn was a surprise, I entered medical school thinking I was going to be a cardiologist, but I had the most enjoyment on my obstetrics and gynecology rotations, my aha moment was after a week of nights, my wife commented that I had seemed the happiest I had been in a while. I did not look back after that and can’t imagine myself in any other field
Something I have learned from my patients is: Different patients want and need different things from their healthcare providers, Learning to adjust and adapt to different people’s needs is the most challenging and most rewarding part of this field.
