Endocrinology care
Our team of highly skilled endocrinologists is committed to your well-being. We provide compassionate, whole-person care in the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions related to hormone imbalances and disorders.
What is endocrinology?
Endocrinology is a specialty that focuses on the body’s endocrine system – the system that controls the production of hormones throughout your body.
Glands and organs release hormones that regulate many important functions in your body, including:
- growth
- metabolism
- blood sugar
- heart rate
- blood pressure
- sexual function
- reproduction
Any imbalance in your hormones – whether too many or not enough – can affect how your body functions.

Your care team will work with you to evaluate, diagnose and treat your condition, providing care that considers your total well-being – body, mind and spirit.
How to connect
You will need a referral from your primary care provider to see our endocrinology team. Contact your primary care provider to see if endocrinology care is the best next step for you. Your provider will:
- evaluate your symptoms
- provide a physical examination
- order initial lab work and testing
- explain the type of care needed for your condition and refer you to the endocrinology care team, if needed
What to expect
When we receive a referral from your provider, we will schedule your first visit with an endocrinology care provider. During this visit, we will:
- talk about your condition
- answer any questions and concerns you have
- perform a targeted examination
- discuss recommended treatment and develop your care plan
Diabetes: additional support and education
When your primary care or specialty provider refers you to endocrinology for additional diabetes care and support, we will connect you with a diabetes educator as well as an endocrinology provider.
A team approach to your care
Sometimes, your providers partner with other Allina Health specialists when conditions require additional care. For example, you may be connected with providers who specialize in pain management or weight management. Or, you may work with the integrative (holistic) medicine team at the Penny George® Institute for Health and Healing.
This connected approach to your care gives you peace of mind that you are truly part of one team. It’s a team that knows you, understands your medical needs and is there to address all your concerns as you receive the highest quality care.
We also want you actively involved in your care. One way you can do that is through the Allina Health account, an online tool that lets you track appointments, review test results, access electronic records, communicate with your team and more.
