What is your practice philosophy? Every patient is an n of 1. Collaboration with patients/families to develop appropriate treatment plans is crucial to mental health treatment and quality of life.  

What are you passionate about? And why? My family, my health, and my patients. Being actively involved with my family and maintaining good health set me up to be present with my patients and provide the best care that I can.  

If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: Life Below Zero Alaskan Homesteader trying to live off the land. 

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I started working in a nursing home in high school and realized healthcare was a field that would allow me to work with others to make a difference. 

Something I have learned from my patients is: Listening and communicating are keys to success. Patients have buy-in, which is so important to setting and reaching goals. 

One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why):  Not every presentation is clear-cut; it often takes time to accurately diagnose a mental health condition. I enjoy working toward diagnostic clarity with patients and their families while addressing their biggest presenting concerns. 

My personal health goal is: To go backpacking at least once every 3 years with my family. 

What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? Make healthy eating choices and exercise habits part of your lifestyle. 

What are you most proud of? The great support network I have.  

What are a few of your personal achievements? Playing football on the varsity men’s football team in high school (kicker). Backpacking in the Midwest, East Coast, and West Coast. Building a shed, remodeling a sunroom, and learning to drywall with my spouse.
