Our mental health specialists at Allina Health provide outpatient treatment and support for individuals who have experienced first episode psychosis through the Navigate program.

Navigate is a nationally recognized, evidence-based treatment model for first episode psychosis. Navigate is a multidisciplinary program, which means we have an entire team of mental health care specialists working together to treat patients in the early phase of the illness, while also providing support for them and their families.

Navigate program at Allina Health

The Navigate treatment team at Allina Health includes specialty providers with expertise in psychiatry, individual and family therapy, case management as well as educational and vocational support. These highly skilled experts work with patients and their families, following the Navigate program treatment model.

Navigate program details

  • duration: one to two years
  • location of treatment: virtual, in-clinic, at home or within the community
  • variety of services (some required and others individualized, which patients can select according to their specific needs)

Services may include: 

  • psychiatry (required) 
  • psychotherapy – individual and family (featuring evidence-based treatment modalities for psychosis)
  • educational support
  • vocational advocacy, assessment and coaching
  • crisis and recovery plans (personalized to support safety and maintain progress)
  • case management support (care coordination with outpatient providers as well as referrals)
  • family education groups focused on education regarding psychosis (monthly, virtual meets)
  • peer support specialist services

Who qualifies for the Navigate program?

  • individuals between the ages of 15 and 40 years old.
  • individuals can be on medication (exception: cannot be on anti-psychotic medication for more than 12 cumulative months upon entering program)
  • individuals with an intellectual disability (IQ typically below 70) are not eligible

Note: Individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, borderline personality disorder or schizotypal personality disorder are typically not eligible for the Navigate program.
