Practice philosophy: I try to treat my patients as I would like my family members to be treated when they are seen for medical care. I listen, I have compassion and understanding. I give my assessment and alternatives, and decisions are made jointly. I practice the full spectrum of Family Medicine excluding only infants and young toddlers. I try to please God in my work, as He is in all of it.
What are you passionate about and why? I have decided to return to Allina Health Woodbury after 21 years of working here, and after just one year of retirement. I greatly missed caring for people, helping people be and do the best they can. People need care here and everywhere, and with the doctor shortage it's hard to get.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? A middle school teacher, that is the path I was on before switching. I do teach a lot in my work.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? Biology is fascinating, especially how the human body works. I decided I would love to go to medical school to use all this exciting knowledge to help people get better and live healthier lives.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Listening and explaining is a very important part of all medical visits, I try to do my best.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Seeing patients with a wide variety of personalities, perspectives, medical concerns, and what they are looking for through the visit can be very challenging. I enjoy it because it is a challenge.
What is your personal health goal? 150 minutes of exercise per week
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Keep a schedule of sleep/wake time, eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables in a good variety, exercise at least 3 times per week, and 5 would be better, have close relationships.
What are you most proud of? I'm very proud of my three children.
What are a few of your personal achievements? My most exciting achievement was getting into medical school and then graduating and being a real doctor out in the world of patients. I'm glad I won some patient communication awards.
