Practice philosophy: I strive to deliver patient-centered care. I make it a priority to listen to my patients and develop a trusting relationship. Whether it’s tailoring a treatment plan to fit a lifestyle, or explaining how a prescription is going to help a condition, I want each patient to know I am present and will provide personalized care.
What are you passionate about and why? Teaching sun safety practices. While many skin cancers are easily treated, some can have devastating results and negatively impact quality of life. It’s never too late to start protecting your skin from sun damage.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Travel blogger/writer.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I was drawn to a career that would challenge me and allow me to be a life-long student. During PA school, I realized my passion for the dermatology specialty and knew it was where I was meant to be.
What is something you have learned from your patients? How resilient the human body and mind are. I admire how courageous people can be when facing a chronic/difficult medical diagnosis. I continue to be inspired by my patients and their life experiences.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? I enjoy the challenge of the unknown. When I encounter a difficult case that stumps me, I’m not afraid to tell my patient “I don’t know,” but I make it a priority to find answers and treatments.
What is your personal health goal? To practice sun safety as much as I teach!
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? “A body in motion stays in motion.” The importance of movement in our daily routine is paramount to the longevity of our bodies and minds.
What are you most proud of? After graduating from college and working in the environmental field for years, I decided to make a career change into medicine. It was intimidating to leave my established career and start over. I am proud of myself for having the courage to make this change and for what I have achieved.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I enjoy going on challenging hikes. My most recent achievement was summiting Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. I am always looking for recommendations for my next big hike.
