As a nurse practitioner, my practice philosophy places an emphasis on creating an atmosphere that supports a strong patient and provider relationship by providing compassionate, high-quality, individualized care. I believe in the importance of supporting patients in their health goals by encouraging personal development through education and shared decision making.
I am passionate about life-long learning, research and education. Working in the medical field has granted me the opportunity to continuously expand my knowledge base while also allowing me the ability to educate others.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be?
If I weren't in healthcare, I would have pursued a degree in elementary science education
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you?
It was during my hospital nursing that I decided to further my education and pursue my DNP & FNP degree. The connections and impact providers have with patients and families influenced my decision.
What is something you have learned from your patients?
I have learned compassion, empathy, respect, humility, the power of perseverance, vulnerability, and laughter. I feel that I am continuously learning from my patients as they are learning from me.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why?
Relationships with patients can be challenging to establish and maintain. It is a bi-directional exchange and can be difficult to manage and able to produce the best outcome for patients.
What is your personal health goal?
My personal health goal is to live an active, healthy life with my family.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received?
The best thing I have done for my health is incorporating running into my exercise routine. Running has become a way for me to stay active and has helped give me an outlet for me to process my day.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my family. I am proud of my four wonderful children which have kept life full and challenging, as well as my amazing husband who has been an enormous support system through school and in this new transition.
What are a few of your personal achievements?
Finishing the Twin Cities Half Marathon, Graduating with my doctorate in Nursing Practice while raising a family and being awarded a Becky Taylor Fellowship - twice
