What is your practice philosophy? I believe in treating each patient with the same enthusiasm and kindness that I would wish to be treated. I want each patient to feel comfortable in my care and confident that I am doing everything in my power to help them.
What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about quality of life. About honesty in healthcare. About giving people service where they feel heard and truly cared for.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: Teacher of some kind. I love art, writing, drawing, and reading – teaching would be fun and give me the same satisfaction in helping others that I enjoy in the healthcare professions.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I am a third-generation nurse. I think it is genetic. I was handing out band aids on the playground in grade school and carried alcohol wipes for scraped knees. Caring for people and wanting to be the one to help has always been second nature to me.
Something I have learned from my patients is: I have learned that I will never stop learning in this profession. Every day and every human is unique and the skills found in healthcare are bought with time and honed with experience.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): I enjoy the challenge of the ever-changing field of medicine. Science is always evolving and getting to evolve with it keeps me on my toes.
My personal health goal is: To be a good example of a heathy, active mother for my children!
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? The best thing I have done for my health is to let go of perfection. That I don’t need a structured health routine if I move often and eat well. That sometimes doing less, consistently is far better than doing more, intermittently.
What are you most proud of? Being mom of my two children. They are my favorite achievement.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Being the commencement speaker for both my undergraduate and graduate ceremonies. Publishing my memoir, Everybody Just Breathe, about being a COVID ICU nurse. Surviving the pandemic with two little kids at home and while being in grad school.
