Paul Yoo, DO

What is your practice philosophy? My practice philosophy is to focus on whole person centered care to see the big picture and meet patients where they are at. This philosophy allows me to help patients regain independence, function, and sense of self.  

What are you passionate about? And why? My passion is to help others improve their quality of life and get back to doing the things that they are passionate about. 

If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: If I wasn’t a provider I would be a musician. I play the guitar and piano. I listen to a wide range of music, but my go to listening choice is progressive rock and roll. It focuses on composition, experimentation, and concept-driven lyrics. It is whole music centered rock and roll.  

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I become a provider as a way to empower patients to take an active role in their health and healing. The best part of being a provider is being able to watch patients overcome obstacles, watch them improve, and seeing the difference that exemplary health care can make in their lives.  

Something I have learned from my patients is: I have learned from my patients the importance of listening first, so that patients feel heard and are active participants in their health care journey. I have also learned the importance of gratitude through the positive attitudes of my patients whom are an inspiration in how to overcome challenges. 

One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why):  A challenging and rewarding aspect of being a physiatrist is that every patient is different with unique struggles and needs allowing me to work in a team oriented atmosphere in order to help them become their best selves. 

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of becoming the first physician in my family and couldn’t have accomplished it without the support of my amazing friend and family.
