What is your practice philosophy? I strive to be a good listener, to understand the personal and cultural values of each patient, to communicate evidence-based options with clarity and compassion, and to collaborate with all members of the healthcare team including the patient as their decision-making partner.
What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about neuroscience because the brain is responsible for so many functions and houses each individual's unique personality. I am intrigued by how much there is still left to discover in the field of neuroscience. I feel called to provide dignified care to patients affected by neurological conditions.
Something I have learned from my patients is: a person may find meaning in life even when confronted with a hopeless situation or when facing a fate that cannot be changed. A person's life offers meaning in every moment and every situation, and it is up to each individual to seek it.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: balancing the art and science of being a provider because it allows me to use both sides of my brain.
What are you most proud of? Living in Hawaii for 4 years and meeting my husband there who was born and raised on the beautiful island of Oahu (and getting him to move to Minnesota!).
What are a few of your personal achievements? I've competed in three body-building shows.
