About extended employment

This job retention service will assist the individual in thriving in their current position. Having an advocate helps individuals feel more empowered. Extended Employment is especially beneficial at the beginning of or when returning to employment, when problems often arise. The person served will choose if they want to disclose with their employer that they are participating in this service.

  • There is no fee for this service, it is funded through a grant from the state of Minnesota.
  • Individuals must be working a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Commit to meeting twice a month with the Extended Employment Specialist for at least three months.
  • Individuals are not eligible if they are receiving Waiver services. They are encouraged to contact their Waiver case manager about other sources of this support.
  • Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday during normal business hours with flexibility to accommodate the individual's work schedule.
  • Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is an accredited organization by CARF.

Individuals are encouraged to discuss any work-related concerns during meetings with their Employment Specialist. Topics may include:

  • Transportation concerns
  • Training issues
  • Job competency
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Conflict resolution with co-workers or management
  • Time allowed for breaks and lunch
  • Is overtime allowed? Is it mandatory?
  • PTO and leave policies
  • Employee rights
  • Reasonable accommodations
  • Work-life balance
