What is your practice philosophy? I believe in working together with patients to best understand how their concerns fit within their overall lifestyle and goals of care to develop the best treatment plan specific to each individual. Although Ear, Nose & Throat is a surgical sub-specialty, I understand that the decision to pursue surgery is a serious consideration and will work with you to make sure we make the right decisions along each step of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
Something I have learned from my patients is: Although we as medical providers are trained to recognize and treat conditions of the Ear, Nose & Throat, each patient is different and requires a unique treatment plan that best fits their needs and goals.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): Otolaryngology involves complex systems and anatomy, and this allows for a challenging yet rewarding career. There is enormous variety in the types of conditions we treat and the surgeries we perform, so every day is exciting and offers the chance at helping patients while enjoying the variety this field has to offer.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? I believe that both mental and physical health are equally important in maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle, and giving attention to each is critical for well-being.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my wonderful wife and daughter, and being able to maintain a healthy work/life balance. I am also proud of being raised in rural Minnesota.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha my third year of medical school. During residency, I received the prestigious Franklin M. Rizer Temporal Bone Award, Resident Research Award, and In-service Exam Award. While playing in the National Club Baseball Association at the University of Minnesota I received National Pitcher of the Week Honors.
