What is your practice philosophy? My practice philosophy builds on two primary components – additive mental wellness and human adaptability. Therapy is not just about taking away symptoms or stressors, but also about working to add to mental health and well-being. To that end, I believe that even maladaptive thoughts and behaviors represent the individual doing their very best to adapt in a way that meets a need. Therapy, then, is not about fixing something broken but the process of refocusing adaptive ability in an intentional and sustainable way.
What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about helping individuals use their own strengths to create a life of their own choosing. I believe that, although it can be difficult, every person is capable of creating meaningful personal change.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): I enjoy the challenge of working to meet each individual where they are because every individual has unique strengths, challenges, and circumstances.
My personal health goal is: To become a year-round bike-commuter.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? I made a commitment to improve my own physical health through exercise and weight-loss and I have been able to do so in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.
