What is your practice philosophy? I work with your providers, educate about medications and conditions, and adjust medications to maximize their effect. I will take action to correct drug therapy problems and follow up to ensure a resolution. I combine clinical evidence and personal preference with the goal of empowering people to make informed decisions about their medications and about their health.
Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska. In Minnesota for over 20 years.
I am passionate about: Good conversations, learning new things, and taking care of myself/loved ones. At the end of the day, we are social creatures who strive to make things better for the world at large.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a:Teacher or writer come to mind. I wanted to be a professional baseball and basketball player as a kid. I had to give up on that dream when was about 16!
Something I have learned from my patients is: They will teach you a lot if you know how to listen.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: It blends science, compassion, interacting with people, and practical problem solving. There are few jobs that can give you all that in an hour!
My personal health goal is: Beat my son in a running race for as long as possible!
What are you most proud of? Being a spouse, son, and father.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I have won a few professional awards and the Allina Health Uncommon Caring Award for a patient intervention I made a few years back.
What patients are saying about Matt Kresl:
"Matt was thorough and patient, answered all of my questions, and indicated that he would follow up with my other doctors. He did so promptly and sent good follow up information to me via MyChart. I had an excellent experience with him."
"Dr. Kresl, provided a terrific service. I now have a much better understanding of the interaction of all my prescriptions. He listened very intently to my concerns about the medications. He provided some very helpful recommendations in regards to my balancing the medication. He wasn't overly assertive, yet he had a style, that made me comfortable and a style that I was receptive to. For example, he strongly recommended a sleep study, which I initially wasn't in favor of, yet I will set an appointment. In summary, Dr. Kresl projects a professional demeanor, but also a personal comfort level. Those two styles allow the patient to trust him, and that allows the patient to take some medical "risks", for the benefit of patient. I'll be forever grateful for Dr. Kresl's."
