Adrianne Chessidy, MD, PhD

Practice philosophy: I believe that respect and honest, open listening must go hand in hand with medical knowledge to provide the best outcomes. I truly believe in the art of medicine and the power of human connection. I also cherish learning from and with my patients, as medicine is continually evolving and moving forward.

What are you passionate about and why? I am passionate about women’s health, family planning, prenatal and obstetrical care, LGBTQ health care, adolescent health care, preventive health and managing chronic disease. I love building relationships and partnering with my patients to achieve their health goals.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I was originally expecting to be a bench researcher. Now I think I would be a therapist.

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I became a clinician because I value building relationships and the power this has to heal. I chose family medicine for the incredible opportunity to take care of multiple members within a family.

What is something you have learned from your patients? Humility. How to sit with uncertainty and still move forward.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? There is still much in medicine that is unknown, so I don't always have the answer. This is challenging but also means that every day I am learning, growing and becoming a better physician.

What is your personal health goal? To follow my own advice!

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? To be proud of small steps and changes along the way to a bigger goal. It can be overwhelming to commit to a substantial lifestyle shift, so celebrating the small wins makes a big difference.

What are you most proud of? Professionally, I am most proud of the relationships I have built with my patients and the trust they have in me.
Personally, I am most proud that I have always followed my heart and found the path and people that sustain me on a daily basis. And my son - I am really proud of him!

What are a few of your personal achievements? I've summited a mountain, run a 100-mile relay, traveled to more than 10 countries, fostered multiple dogs and brought a tiny human into the world.
