My specialties:
- Podiatry
Professional interests:
- ankle surgery
- foot operations
- Sports Medicine
- biomechanics
Practice philosophy: I enjoy providing comprehensive foot and ankle care to patients of all age groups from pediatric to geriatrics. I enjoy taking the time to truly get to know and connect with my patients and colleagues. Being able to provide quality medical/surgical care to patients you consider “extended family members” truly makes my profession special.
What are you passionate about and why? Solving problems that negatively affecting patients' lives, clinically or surgically, to correct the problem and improve quality of life. Patients are super appreciative when they get back to activities they couldn’t perform pain-free anymore. This really creates a special long-term relationship.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I enjoy working with my hands so probably something in the woodworking trades or construction business.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I graduated from Podiatry school in 1997 and residency in 2000. I chose to go into podiatry after doing an internship with a podiatrist while in undergrad at Luther College in 1992.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Treat patients as you would a family member and they will respect you and become great lifelong friends and advocates for your professional career.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Diagnosing complex foot/ankle problems and developing a treatment plan to correct. Not everything is black and white, which can be a challenge. This helps motivate more learning and self-improvement.
What is your personal health goal? Maintaining my active lifestyle as I age. I truly value my outdoor hobbies and being able to keep up.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Taking time for outdoor activities. This involves being active and getting a “breath of fresh air” to rejuvenate my mind, body and soul. I enjoy healthier food choices and meal prep for my family.
What are you most proud of? I am proud of the reputation developed through my high standard of care. Providers, clinical and surgical staff, and patients realize this and seek me out. I cultivated those relationships in a professional yet personal way that make people appreciate working with me and being patients of mine.
What are a few of your personal achievements? My pride lies in raising 3 wonderful kids with my wife. They are achieving wonderful things professionally and are also genuinely quality people. Also, slalom water skiing at the age of 51, LOL!
