Practice philosophy: I work to provide patients non-judgmental, safe and effective care based on medical evidence. I carefully listen to my patients and practice shared decision making. I believe in respecting individual dignity of each patient. I believe in treating the whole person which includes body, mind and spirit.
What are you passionate about and why? Women's health, racial equity, LGBTQ rights, addiction medicine, poverty alleviation, education, obesity medicine. All of these tie into healthcare, bridging healthcare disparities, and my practice.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? High school teacher or chef.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? From an early age I have had an interest in science, along with helping people and listening to their stories. The healthcare field was the perfect fit for these interests.
What is something you have learned from your patients? I have learned that every patient tells a story. I love people and getting to know those stories. My patients have demonstrated resilience, vulnerability, and perseverance.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? In this career I never stop learning, which I love. Healthcare and science are always changing, and it takes time and effort to keep up. I like to meet patients where they are at and create trust.
What is your personal health goal? Maintain physical and mental wellness. Focus on physical, mental and emotional self care.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Moving my body daily has helped my physical and mental health. I try to prioritize rest which can be tough with two young children. The best advice is, "everything in moderation".
What are you most proud of? My two children: Phoebe and Joseph.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Nursing then received my NP degree. I volunteer in the community with an organization focused on bridging the opportunity gap in Mpls schools.
