What is your practice philosophy? I believe in getting to know my patients well so that I can provide them with personalized, evidence-based, high-quality care.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about traveling. I have had amazing opportunities in life so far to visit some incredible parts of the world, both near and far. I've even been able to practice medicine in other parts of the world, where access to healthcare is not as good as it is here in the US.
If I wasn't a provider, I would be: A baker or spin instructor. I love to bake and cook and I think it would be so fun to have my own little bakery. I've also fallen in love with indoor cycling and I think it would be so amazing to get out there and motivate others.
Why did you become a provider? My grandma always told the story that I said I wanted to be a doctor when I was 5 years old. In medical school, I became very interested in women's health. I love obstetrics and surgery of course, but what I loved more were the relationships that you can develop over time with patients. It's truly an honor to be a part of someone's life as she celebrates the birth of a new baby, deals with an unexpected diagnosis, or moves into menopause.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: Caring for patients when they experience a pregnancy loss or unexpected abnormality. Obstetrics is not always happy and joyful. Many patients experience loss and disappointment, and while it is not easy, I am glad to be the one to hold their hand and help them through that painful event.
My personal health goal is: To make my health and exercise a priority. Now that I've moved back to Minnesota, I would love to train for and complete the Minneapolis Marathon.
What is the best thing you've done for your health? I have been vegetarian for 20 years and make an effort to eat in a healthy way, and I exercise regularly, which has helped both my mental and physical health.
