Angela Honstad, MD, orthopedic surgeon, knew she wanted to work in the healthcare field all the way through high school and college. She decided on orthopedics as her specialty in her final year of medical school.

Dr. Honstad is a New Ulm native who is happy to be returning to her hometown. She completed her undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and her medical degree and residency at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Honstad was recognized with the Trauma Resident of the Year Award.

Within the orthopedics specialty, Dr. Honstad said she has a special interest in the areas of joint replacement, sports medicine, and fracture care. She offers face-to-face virtual visits for a variety of health services and conditions.

“I enjoy the diversity of experiences ranging from the clinic to the ER and the operating room,” she said. “I love the variety of patients and how much we are able to provide through therapies, injections, procedures, and surgery. I enjoy caring for children, teens, and adults."

Of her approach to treating patients, Dr. Honstad said, “I like to engage patients in shared decision making. I think it is important for patients to know what options are available and then discuss which options may be most beneficial for them.”

While Dr. Honstad's practice consists primarily of treating injury or pain, she is an enthusiastic supporter of preventive medicine.

"I believe strongly that it's important to focus on injury prevention and maintaining our musculoskeletal health throughout life," Dr. Honstad said.

Dr. Honstad and her husband, Ryan, have a dog named Barney. In their spare time, the couple enjoys outdoor activities like fishing and gardening. They especially enjoy fishing trips to northern Minnesota.
