I’m a Clinical Nurse Specialist practicing in Oncology. I work with surgeons to help diagnose and treat cancer and help determine appropriate screening for people at higher risk of cancer.
I offer face-to-face virtual visits for a variety of health services and conditions.
Hometown: Inver Grove Heights
Practice philosophy: I strive to provide evidence-based care that is individualized to the patient and the patient's family.
I am passionate about ensuring every patient is treated as it pertains to their unique circumstances and set of beliefs. I have been a patient many times and it is so important to feel cared for and about.
If I wasn't a provider, I would be a botanist/professional gardener/herbal practitioner. I love gardening and think that there is a place in Western and main stream medicine for some of the "old ways."
Why did you become a provider? I became a clinical nurse specialist because I like to be able to help with change and implementation of evidence-based practice to ensure ALL patients are receiving the best care.
Something I have learned from my patients is that everyone responds differently to illness and disease. It is important to meet patients where they are at and ensure they have the information they need to make informed decisions about their care.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is survivorship visits. It is an important topic that is only recently getting the attention it needs and deserves. Everyone's experience with cancer is different and survivorship is a very personal discussion. These discussions have helped me better understand where patients are at and it helps me identify what we can do to help them continue to heal, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well.
My personal health goal is to hike in all of our Minnesota State Parks and National Parks!
