Physical medicine and rehabilitation
Learn more
Doctors who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) have advanced training in diagnosing and treating problems that affect the muscles, bones and joints, as well as the nervous system.
Physiatrists conduct physical exams, prescribe healing therapies, and develop treatment plans. Using a holistic approach, they look at the entire person, not just a problem area. They help patients recover from conditions such as stroke, sports injuries, low back pain, spinal cord injury, and cancer.
