James Johanning, MPAS, PA-C
Physician Assistant
My specialties:
- Orthopedics
Professional interests:
- Orthopedic urgent care
- General urgent care
Practice philosophy: Patient first care, Patient involvement in healthcare decision making. DEI is of utmost importance with all patients being effectively treated and cared for as one would treat family.
What are you passionate about and why? Women's bone health/early screening for osteoporosis and fracture prevention. Why? Having assisted in orthopedic trauma, exposure to preventable fractures and the co-morbidities that arise from such events that diminish quality of live and sometimes shorten lives of those affected.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Flooring installer.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? The inborn satisfaction of helping others/seeing others do well as a result of the efforts of myself/medical team.
What is something you have learned from your patients? "Don't worry" has been a very common answer to my questions to those who are over 100 years of age.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Teaching other providers within my area of expertise equally to lifelong learning from colleagues in their experiences/expert area of medicine.
What is your personal health goal? Keep my weight under 200 lbs.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Eating a reasonable diet. Not an extremely limited one. The best health advice I've received is, "eat a wide variety of foods." (Jane Brody - Nutrition author).
What are you most proud of? My 3 children.
What are a few of your personal achievements? 1989 U.S. Freestyle Ski Team member. 1998 Certification as a Physician Assistant. Fathering 3 children who are well rounded. Won the 2007 "Average Joe Triathalon" in Perham, MN.
