Gary Gronstedt, DO

Practice philosophy: I use a holistic approach to working with my patients and tailor their treatment plans based on evidence based practice and their individuality. I believe in a collaborative care approach that enhances quality of care and treatment outcomes.

What are you passionate about and why? I want to continue to work on reducing the stigma of mental illness and being a positive role model as a psychiatric provider, especially to early career providers.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? High school music teacher.

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I followed my older sister’s footsteps in becoming a physician. I decided on psychiatry during a psychiatry elective in my internship year after the psychiatrist encouraged me to pursue it.

What is something you have learned from your patients? I have learned how to be humble and to actively listen when meeting with my patients.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? I enjoy how complex human beings are, especially in regards to the relationship between minds and bodies.

What is your personal health goal? Maintain a healthy work-life balance and eat more fruits/vegetables!

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? I started working out and making fitness a priority in my life. Best advice I’ve received is to never take myself too seriously and always try and maintain a sense of humor.
