What are you passionate about and why? I’m passionate about advancing medical care for underserved populations, improving access to mental health care, and providing evidence-based treatments. My work in Chicago with vulnerable groups highlighted the social responsibility psychiatrists have in reducing health disparities.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Run a cat-themed tea and coffee shop.

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? While working in a hospital during college, I saw how times of illness in patients' lives are marked by uncertainty and anxiety. I wanted to address these challenges and provide support.

What is something you have learned from your patients? From my patients, I’ve learned the importance of emotional support during illness. Their vulnerability highlighted the need to address mental health needs and holistic care.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? A challenge in psychiatry is integrating diverse mental health perspectives with modern treatments -- and developing effective care plans that align with patients' priorities and needs.

What is your personal health goal? Practicing mindful meditation.

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Living in the present, rather than having one foot in the past, and the other foot in the future.

What are you most proud of? The journey from immigrating to the United States to working in the medical field.

What are a few of your personal achievements? Ran the Honolulu marathon!
