Practice philosophy: The guiding principle of my practice is to treat my patients as human beings. All deserving respect, dignity and compassion. That means taking into account who they are as a person and what is important to them. Listening is a key tenet of my practice. Understanding a patient’s goals for their treatment and what is going on in other aspects of their life or health are just as important to the treatment’s outcome as the correct diagnosis and surgical procedure.
What are you passionate about and why? I'm passionate about self improvement in all facets of life, the patient care I provide, my knowledge and surgical skills, my partnership with my wife, my parenting as a father, my ability to serve my parents as a son. I'm passionate about being an excellent resource to our community.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I would be a teacher or a coach. Two of the careers best able to help others.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I always knew I wanted to help people. I tried teaching and coaching briefly and they didn't click for me as a career. I wanted a challenge where I could help people which lead me to medicine.
What is something you have learned from your patients? That the most important thing is finding out what is important to them.
If the treatment does not meet their goals, the chance of success is low.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? The field is always improving, growing, and providing better patient care. It's exciting to know that every year we will be able to treat people better with advances in knowledge and technology.
What is your personal health goal? My goal is to be able to compete with my children over the next twenty years in a variety of sports.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? The best thing I have done is to just start trying, sometimes we put goals to high right away and can never hope to reach them. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step-Proverb
What are you most proud of? I'm most proud of my growth as a person. This is in all aspects of life, physically with strength and running, my leadership abilities, communication skills. I'm also very proud of my wife, who is an amazing mother and occupational therapist and the family we have built together.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Being happily married, raising children, starting for 3 years in college sports. 1000 lb club for strength training, completing a marathon.
