Practice philosophy: My philosophy to patient care is providing patient centered, whole person care, and outcome-based care by collaboratively working with patients, taking into account their own cultural beliefs and providing them treatment options and supporting their autonomy regarding their care. My goal is to treat the patient as a whole, taking into account both physical and mental well-being, versus just the primary complaint.
What are you passionate about and why? I have a passion for developing life long patient-provider relationships. Specifically caring for women who are planning for a family and seeking preventive health. I am passionate about caring for women and advocating for their health, so they can be healthy for those that they support around them.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? When I was younger I thought I would work along side animals as a Marine Biologist or Zoologist.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I enjoyed being a nurse at the bedside. However, as a nurse practitioner I can provide whole person care, providing autonomy to the patient when it comes to their care and I am there to facilitate it.
What is something you have learned from your patients? The number one thing I have learned from my patients is they know their bodies best. Listening to patients is key when successfully diagnosing and treating patients.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? One of the most valuable learning curves was working with patients from a variety of different backgrounds. This has enabled me to better advocate for care and develop specific care plans for all.
What is your personal health goal? I love a sweet treat but everything in moderation is key, along side daily physical activity.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? The best advice I have received and pass along is to prioritize your sleep and get regular physical activity to promote your mental health and prevent physical illness from lack of exercise and sleep.
What are you most proud of? I am proud of my perseverance and working in many different types of roles within the medical field, including a CNA, pharmacy technician, LPN, RN, nurse manager and now Nurse Practitioner. Due to the many hats that I have worn, I can better assist patients as they move through the medical system.
What are a few of your personal achievements? My personal achievements include reaching my career goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner and providing care to women. I find it an accomplishment to wear many hats within the healthcare system.
