If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be?
I really liked working at my local grocery store as a teenager. Or a lawyer.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? Started as RN in 2010 and NP in 2016. When I first starting working inpatient adolescent psych in 2002 I knew mental health was the career for me.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Change is possible and to consider many perspectives as people have their own unique experiences in life that can impact their mental health for good or bad.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Seeing people struggle with addiction is hard and seeing them recover from addiction is rewarding.
What is your personal health goal? Be active, eat well-balanced meals.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Stick with health changes and it is ok if you slip up for a bit of time.
What are you most proud of? My daughter. I''m also proud that I've been able to work with adolescent's for a lot of my career. That may be changing with me at Allina and I'm ok with that as well.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Bachelors degrees in psychology and nursing and doctoral degree in psych nursing (DNP); one year of college hockey at St Olaf; still close with a lot of college friends from 20 years ago.
