Professional interests:

Practice philosophy: To provide patients with the best medical care as they navigate a difficult diagnosis
What are you passionate about and why? I am passionate about helping patients learn about an unexpected diagnosis by meeting them where they are at and helping them move forward with some understanding of their disease. It is an honor and privilege to get to know and care for patients during what is often the end of their lives.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? A teacher or librarian.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I always wanted to be a nurse but NEVER in cancer care. When I graduated from nursing school, the only opening was on the oncology unit. A patient named Barb "set the hook."
What is something you have learned from your patients? How to live with cancer gracefully and to the fullest. Also, how our words and actions impact others.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? One of the greatest challenges is helping people accept their diagnosis with them learning to live with it.
What is your personal health goal? Learn to take time for myself with a focus on my mental health
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? The best health advice I have received would be that it is okay to take time for me, to set boundaries, and to say no.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of how our brain tumor program has evolved over the years and that I have been a part of that.
What are a few of your personal achievements? My temozolomide research project/poster presentation at a meeting a few years ago. Winning the March of Dimes award.
Having others recognize what I have to offer to projects within the organization.
