Practice philosophy: I try to treat every patient like I would like to be treated. With respect, courtesy and with best interest in mind. I believe in educating my patients concerning their medical problems, and offer tools and solutions to “fix” them in hopes that patients are more compliant with their treatments.
What are you passionate about and why? I love orthopedic problems, joint injections, and minor procedures, but I also like to focus on preventative health and quality of life. Those are medical problems that are tangible and for patients easy to relate to.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I’d probably be in construction tiling mosaics or building ornate furniture pieces.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I was fortunate to volunteer alongside a military PA years ago who introduced me to the profession. Medical problems are like a puzzle, you need to put all the pieces together to find a solution.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Listen to and take patient concerns seriously, they will be more compliant with treatment suggestions. Also, to speak to my patients in simple, not use complex medical terms which elicit confusion.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? You will always see a variety of medical problems which keeps you mentally engaged and driven to continue your medical education to stay up to date on the latest medical advances in your field.
What is your personal health goal? Stay physically/mentally fit to serve patients and enjoy my creative work outside of clinic.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? I have had a multitude of orthopedic surgeries and have always tried to live by what one of my orthopedic surgeons told me when I was younger – never gain weight and always stay active!
What are you most proud of? I am proud of both my kids excelling in what they do despite having an eccentric mother! I am also proud of myself that despite several hardships on my journey to become a PA I persevered and finished my schooling. My profession is very rewarding, and I get to touch many lives in positive ways.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Having great hardworking kids, becoming a PA later in life than most, successfully encouraging at least some patients to make significant changes in their lives to achieve better health.
