What is your practice philosophy? I seek to provide compassionate and thoughtful care to patients with complicated pregnancies. This means making my expertise as accessible and specific to the individual patient and their family as possible. Attentive listening and shared decision making are the cornerstones of this approach.
What are you passionate about? And why? Learning. In all areas of my life. Learning has made me a better doctor, father and musician. I’ve always had a curiosity and drive to understand that has served me well.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: A musician because I’ve always loved expression through music.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I became a physician after starting my career in economic/litigation consulting. I made the change because the personal connections one makes with patients and the tangible differences one encourages in their health are each tremendously rewarding.
Something I have learned from my patients is: I learned that the science and expertise we offer in medicine only helps when it fits within the context of the patient and their families’ lives. This can only be achieved with attentive listening.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): Fetal medicine is complex and cerebral. Complicated presentations require a broad differential diagnosis and multiple tools to sort out. I enjoy the puzzle.
My personal health goal is: Exercise more days of the week than not, consisting of resistance, HIIT and Zone 2.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? I decreased consumption of carbohydrates. I lost about 35 pounds and improved my metabolic health.
What are you most proud of? My children, as they grow and adapt. I’m impressed by them daily.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I have played the piano for a long time; however I recently undertook a two year long project of completely overhauling my technique with a new teacher and have seen terrific improvement.
