What is your practice philosophy? I assume all individuals have the inherent resources and strengths they need to navigate life’s challenges. As a therapist it is my goal to assist individuals in identifying and utilizing those strengths more consistently to improve overall functioning and quality of life.
What are you passionate about? And why? Work/life balance. It keeps me practicing mindfulness and recognizing the positives in everything I choose to do.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: I would own a boarding facility for dogs. I love animals and dogs in particular are therapeutic. They bring loyalty, laughter and fun to people’s lives.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? While growing up, I naturally fell into the role of confidant with others. I knew by middle school that I wanted to be a mental health therapist.
Something I have learned from my patients is: I have learned that the resiliency people have despite the challenges they may face is amazing, commendable and should never be underestimated.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): Assisting individuals in discovering their own personal motivation for change. Without intrinsic motivation, therapy tends to be stagnant and unproductive.
My personal health goal is: To maintain consistent self-care (eating regular nutritious meals, getting good sleep, exercising at least several times per week).
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? I purchased a Peloton treadmill last May. It has been inspiring and motivating to join others in workouts both on the tread and other classes (e.g., yoga, strength training) The positive affirmations stated within the classes are great!
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of achieving my degree/license, allowing me to do work that positively impacts the lives of children, adolescents and adults.
What are a few of your personal achievements? My doctorate degree, purchasing my home, hiking/climbing Mt. St. Helens.
