Benjamin Davies, MD

Practice philosophy: I truly believe in the patient as an individual. I take pride in shaping our surgical plan with that in mind. Each operation is planned specifically for that patient, and we have agreed on that plan together.

What are you passionate about and why? My passion as a surgical provider is to address each problem with the best tools and knowledge available. I aim to not only fix the patient's problem, but to do so in a way that substantially improves that patient's daily life. Knowing that I can have that impact drives my passion for surgery.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? I would be a coach. I like to work with people to get things done.

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I come from a family of physicians. Though I would like to say I decided in college, it was likely long before that. I do not remember wanting to do anything else.

What is something you have learned from your patients? The best lessons have been completely unrelated to medicine. I enjoy getting to know my patients and the lessons that come from those relationships are invaluable.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? The biggest challenge in surgery is knowing that you cannot fix everyone with an operation. Using my judgment, and making the decision not to operate, is often most important decision I can make.

What is your personal health goal? Cardiovascular fitness and a well rounded diet.

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? An old military colleague of mine would always say, "this is the only body I've got." Our bodies are amazing tools and we can push them to do amazing things, but we do have to care for them.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my family. My wife and two sons inspire and humble me every day.
