What is your practice philosophy? The ultimate goal of successful mental and behavioral health treatment is improved daily function. Sometimes this is achieved through medications, and other times through therapy, parent coaching, play, or a combination of the above. My goal is to partner with children, adolescents and their families to identify goals and meaningful ways to improve function, relationships and feelings.
What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about handcrafts. The process of creating is therapeutic, activating and empowering. I’ve also recently taken a deep dive into permaculture as a way to live more sustainably and responsibly. Stay tuned for updates on this venture, and hopefully future harvests to share from my garden!
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: Homesteader and professional knitter because these activities bring me joy and I love sharing them with others
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I knew I wanted to be a child and adolescent psychiatrist after attending a number of workshops to become a foster parent while I was in medical school. It was a big shift from my previous interest in orthopedic surgery, but I have never regretted my decision!
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): I really enjoy helping parents make small adjustments in how they communicate with and parent their children. Seeing parents delight in their children when previously they felt defeated and frustrated is the most rewarding experiences
