What is your practice philosophy? Partnering with patients throughout many milestones of their lifetime including teen and adolescent health, family planning, labor and birth, postpartum and well-woman care until the perimenopause stages of life. I strive to collaborate with patients and their families providing evidenced-based care honoring their choices.
What are you passionate about? And why? Professionally, I am passionate about women’s health and well-being. I am also passionate about providing trauma informed care to patients and their families. I am passionate about being an advocate and a partner to my patients. Personally, I am passionate about my family and friends.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: If I were not a certified nurse midwife, I would be a pilot. A pilot has the opportunity to travel to many different areas and learn and appreciate various cultures.
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I became a certified nurse midwife to be with patients throughout their lifetime. It is such an honor to be with someone throughout many milestones of their life. Helping patients to focus on their well-being through evidenced-based care is such a priority. Prior to becoming a certified nurse midwife I worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse. I knew I wanted to become a midwife during the early years of my nursing career. I didn’t want the relationship I developed with my patients in the labor and birth setting to end after delivery, rather to be with them throughout their journey. A “Midwife” means just that, to be “with women” and I am looking forward to being with all patients.
Something I have learned from my patients is: I have learned that everyone’s goals, background, culture, personality and life events build upon one another to create the person as a whole. Patients I have cared for have taught me that each of those aspects need to be honored and respected.
My personal health goal is: My personal health goal is to become a certified scuba diver and achieve the stamina to complete long underwater dives.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my three children. Being able to watch them grow and explore our big world is one of my favorite things.
What are a few of your personal achievements? A few of my achievements include: earning my doctorate of nursing practice and becoming a midwife; being a finalist for the March of Dimes nurse of the year in Women’s health
