Practice philosophy: My job as a physician is to be a partner with my patients to find ways to fit treatment for their illness or lifestyle management of disease or injury management into the context of their lives. I think the most important part of my job is getting patients back to the things they love to do.
What are you passionate about and why? I’m passionate about using a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, and good food as treatment for disease. I believe in the benefits of a life-long active life and in keeping all people, young and old, involved in the things that make them happy.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Before medical school, I ran a strength and conditioning program.
What is something you have learned from your patients? There is always a way to solve a problem, but it isn’t always the way that we thought would work in the first place.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? I love to find a way to allow for a partial return to activity even when they have an injury. This requires creative thinking and a partnership with the patient. Solving problems is the best part.
What is your personal health goal? To skate more. I am active most days, a short jog or a hike with my dogs or lifting weights.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? “Never stop.”
What are you most proud of? Our kids – we had one in medical school and one in residency and we all survived! J But truly, they are turning into wonderful people with big, activist hearts and passions and talents that they aren’t afraid to go after.
What are a few of your personal achievements? International Travelling Pool Team Physician with US Figure Skating. Former Competitive Figure Skater, along with being a 4-sport high school athlete. Fun fact:I have an undergraduate degree in music
