What is your practice philosophy? To treat every patient as if they were a member of my own family.
My approach to treating patients is to discuss all of the treatment options so that each patient can be fully informed and make an educated decision on how to proceed. Successful treatment in orthopedic surgery is truly a shared decision making process that accounts for the patient’s own goals and desires.
Hometown: Tampa, FL
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I was only 14 years old when I first volunteered at Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, FL where my mother worked as a pediatric nurse. I was able to observe the incredible impact Orthopaedic surgeons could have on patient’s lives. Seeing the long lasting and meaningful relationships that physicians developed with their patient’s really attracted me to a career path in medicine. Soon after, I was able to shadow an Orthopaedic surgeon in the operating room, and I was enamored not only by the anatomy of the human body but also the teamwork of the staff.
Something I have learned from my patients is: Each patient has lived through their own special, unique experiences. One aspect of being a physician that I really enjoy is learning about these experiences from each of my patients. Making each patient interaction personal provides the necessary environment for building the trust needed for the optimum patient-physician relationship.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health? To not simply focus on my physical well-being but also make sure to take the necessary time to nourish my mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
