Kathryn M. Manning, MD

Practice philosophy: A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who uses psychotherapy alongside prescription medication to treat people with mental health conditions.

What are you passionate about and why? I have worked in many areas including inpatient, PHP, and outpatient. I feel that I get the most satisfaction working in the outpatient clinic. I feel privileged to hear my patient's story, I practice using supportive psychotherapy, and listen in order to choose an appropriate medication.

If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Therapist

Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? Very young! I often tell my patients that I was born to be a psychiatrist! I always enjoyed reading books with main characters that are psychiatrists, movies with a psychiatric theme.

What is something you have learned from your patients? I learn something from every patient. I appreciate learning from my patients that have worked hard to maintain sobriety.

What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Helping the young adults as they navigate the world, trying to figure out where they belong.

What is your personal health goal? maintain physical health through daily exercise

What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? I was a gym rat, always going to the gym in the mornings, attending classes and using the equipment. During the pandemic, I purchased a Peloton bike, changing my exercise routine in a positive way.

What are you most proud of? My children! I have four kids, and each one is unique and amazing! I am most proud of the relationship they have with each other. There is an 8 year age gap between my older two and younger two. I am so grateful that they are so close to each other.

What are a few of your personal achievements?

I have run two marathons and many half marathons.
I ran the "Loony" race a few times which is a 5K, 10K, and half marathon all in one weekend.
I went to medical school in my 30s
