I became a doctor because: I have always loved science and problem solving. A wise advisor in college suggested that medicine might be a perfect way to meld my love of healthy communication, teaching and science.
Something I have learned from my patients is: to never underestimate the power of hard truths spoken with honesty, emotion and empathy. Patients are so much smarter and stronger than even they know.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: helping people understand preventive medicine. Nothing is more satisfying than talking a patient through the need for an uncomfortable procedure like a colonoscopy then having her return to say, “It really wasn’t so bad!”
I am passionate about: forming relationships with the families I care for. I love taking care of patients and their families during every stage of life.
The best health advice I've received is: A very wise physician once told me to never return from one vacation without starting to plan the next because mental health is as important as physical health!
I am most proud of: the fact that my children are kind and compassionate people.
