I am a fellowship trained Surgical Oncologist (Cancer Surgeon) and Board-Certified General Surgeon. After finishing medical school at the University of South Dakota, I completed my general surgery training at Maine Medical Center and was drawn to the surgical care and treatment of cancer. This led me to completing my fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Through my work as a surgical oncologist, I have found the privilege of touching countless lives across the continuum of their cancer care. Every cancer patient and their family are different, with their own unique needs. My goal is to design an individual treatment plan to help each one of my patients to achieve the best outcome possible.
My professional interests include breast cancer, melanoma, skin cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, rectal cancer, sarcoma and surgical management of solid tumors. I offer face-to-face and virtual visits for a variety of health services and conditions.
Hometown:
Sioux Falls, SD
Favorite Health Tip: It is possible to minimize the risk of skin cancer by avoiding UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds. When in the sun, wear a wide brim hat and long-sleeved clothing. It is important to wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater on any sun exposed areas and be protected from the sun from 10:00am to 2:00PM, when the UV rays are at their highest.
The Best Part of My Work is: I get the privilege of connecting with patients and their families, building a relationship, at their most vulnerable time to discuss how we can create an individualized cancer treatment plan that is designed to obtain the best possible outcome.
Practice Philosophy: I believe that communication is the most vital part of my practice. Engaging in open communication with my patients, listening with compassion, and working as a team to identify the best option for their cancer and surgical journey and healthcare experience.
I became a provider because: My father had a long journey with heart disease that ended with his early death. I wanted to have the opportunity to give back to the medical community and help patients and their families through difficult life changing events, just as doctors helped my family.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, working on my 1920’s house, going to baseball games, cooking and finding new ways to enjoy life.
