Practice philosophy: It is important to build a trusting relationship with a patient. I believe working alongside patients to assist them in their care involves the patient contributing and being involved in the decision making process. Patients should be treated as unique individuals with personalized expectations.
What are you passionate about and why? I am truly passionate about patient education. Patients should never leave a visit without understanding the plan for their care. Understanding the diagnostic workup, potential causes, diagnoses, and what to expect from treatment empowers patients to be more involved in decision making.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? Food Truck Operator/Chef
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I knew I wanted to be a provider after joining an ambulance team in 2003. I knew I wanted to be more involved in helping people navigate their health with more informed decision making.
What is something you have learned from your patients? I love learning about people. There are so many unique individuals with stories to share. Some that impact physical health, and some that simply bring joy and interest to the office visit experience.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Finally getting the answers the patient and I had been seeking together. Sometimes this can be a long, frustrating process. But in the end, it allows us to move forward and deal with the once unknown.
What is your personal health goal? Keep moving and actually drink enough water.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? I have committed time to daily movement rather than calling it exercise. I have also made it a goal to include fruits and vegetables in every meal in creative ways.
What are you most proud of? I am truly proud of my family. My children are engaged in having a positive impact on this world as a goal. I pride myself on the ability to selflessly help others, even when it doesn't align with my ideals.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Simply becoming a nurse practitioner was a large achievement. The process in which I accomplished this involved purposefully working in every level of nursing. (CNA, LPN, RN, NP).
