Nicholas Oleen-Junk, PhD

Dr. Oleen-Junk completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he trained in forensic psychology, college student mental health, and multicultural psychotherapy. After finishing his clinical internship at the University of Minnesota’s student counseling center, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he provided individual, couple, and group counseling to health science students and young medical professionals. Dr. Oleen-Junk also served as a Staff Psychologist at Tulane University’s student counseling center in New Orleans and most recently provided outpatient services at a group private practice in the Houston area.

Dr. Oleen-Junk is a generalist who enjoys working with a wide range of clients/patients and concerns. He believes that effective therapy starts with a deeper understanding of someone’s perspective, including how they view their problems and what they believe would make them well. To that end, Dr. Oleen-Junk works hard to establish a trusting and therapeutic relationship that feels safe, reliable, and supportive. Whether brief or longer term in nature, his approach to therapy focuses on helping people develop greater self-knowledge while discovering ways to heal and/or make desired changes.

Dr. Oleen-Junk has developed expertise helping adults struggling with perfectionism/obsession, stress and anxiety, burnout, trauma and grief, and relationship concerns (e.g., friends, family, and partners). His academic/philosophical interests include perspective-taking, cultural humility, existential anxiety, moral development and injury, political identity, and spirituality.
