Practice philosophy: I like establishing long term relationships with patients. I try to work together to understand what the patient’s major problems and concerns are, and then determine together what the best diagnostic and therapeutic course of action should be.
If you weren't a health care provider, what would you be? That is a hard question. Something that would allow for fun and a connection at the end
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I have always been drawn to trying to alleviate suffering. Achieving success in these areas is hard to beat. My parents and grandparents were always supportive of my choice, and that helped.
What is something you have learned from your patients? Grace under fire.
What is one of the challenges of this career you enjoy? And why? Making it more likely that the pain and damage of inflammatory arthritis can be lessened. Broader understanding of the diseases and development of new and powerful therapies have made this possible.
What is your personal health goal? Maintain engagement in physical activities and healthful lifestyles.
What is the best thing you've done for your health or the best health advice you've received? Within the last year walking with my wife regularly in the midst of the pandemic (100 hikes within 30 miles of home) and rekindling an interest in birds and nature watching (both abound in Minnesota).
What are you most proud of? It sounds trite to say it, but seriously, my family.
What are a few of your personal achievements? Hiking much of Rocky Mountain National Park; producing 2 movies for my Med School 4th year play and being told I should consider a career in moviemaking (In retrospect, that could be taken 2 ways.)
