What are you passionate about? And why? I am passionate about building strong relationships with my patients. It is important to have empathy and build a mutual trust. I believe that is the most important part of practicing medicine.
If I wasn’t a provider, I would be a: Detective because I really enjoy trying to solve things
Why did you become a provider? When did you know this was the career for you? I knew I wanted to become a provider as far back as I can remember, likely even grade school. The human body has always fascinated me. I like to be able to fix things, and I enjoy hands on activities, therefore orthopedics was a good fit for me.
Something I have learned from my patients is: No matter how good of a healthcare provider you are, you must build strong, trusting relationships with your patients. It is important to connect with each patient on a personal level, take the time to understand each individual’s needs.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is (and why): I enjoy the challenge of trying to fix each patient’s problem, this is why I really enjoy orthopedics. It is very rewarding to see a patient come to you with an injury or chronic condition that you can fix, allowing that patient to return to the activities that they enjoy.
My personal health goal is: To remain active as long as I can. I have been a runner since I was a teenager, have run several marathons and I would like to continue to do so as long as possible.
What is the best thing you’ve done for your health or the best health advice you’ve received? We all live very busy lives and it can become difficult to remember to take 20-30 mins out of each day for physical activity. It doesn’t have to be something very strenuous but just putting work aside for a little time each day to do something active can be rewarding in many ways, not only physically, but also mentally/emotionally.
What are you most proud of ? I am most proud of my children and the individuals they are becoming. It is so wonderful to watch them grow and develop.
What are a few of your personal achievements? I have run 13 marathons, including 3 Boston Marathons.
