I am a certified nurse practitioner with professional interests in pediatrics, women's health and acute care.
Hometown: Cannon Falls, Minnesota
I am passionate about: providing holistic, evidence-based care and collaborating with my patients to help them achieve their highest level of wellness.
I became a provider because: it grants me the opportunity to educate patients and collaborate with them to help them achieve their highest level of health and wholeness. I knew I wanted to be a nurse from the time I was young and joined my mother at her job in a long-term care facility. My nursing career focused greatly on public health, and I found that there were so many gaps in healthcare, especially in patient education, so I set out to become a primary care provider.
Something I have learned from my patients is: that every patient has a story to tell, and deserves my attention and time. A patient's story shapes who they are and their perceptions of health and wellness, so taking that extra time to understand what is important to them helps me to be a better provider.
One of the challenges of this career that I enjoy is: that science continually changes, and that the best evidence-based care that was provided five years ago may look totally different from the care we provide today. I love to continue to learn and stay up-to-date on the latest evidence, especially as it applies to patient care.
One of the best things I have done for my health is: buying only whole grain pasta, rice and bread a couple of years ago. It took a while to get used to the difference in texture, but now I don't even notice, and it feels great to know I'm treating by body well.
