Millions of Americans suffer from sleep-related disorders. The quality of your sleep can affect your mood, thinking, relationships and health. Read a Dawn's story of how she overcame her sleep issues with CPAP therapy.
Looking through a grey haze
For years, Dawn, close to 50 years old, had been suffering from depression and major allergy symptoms. Her husband would often complain of her disruptive snoring, shallow breathing and became concerned that she would stop breathing during her sleep. It was time that Dawn decided to schedule an appointment with a sleep specialist at Allina Health Bandana Square Sleep Center to discuss her sleep issues.
After her appointment and sleep study, at Allina Health Bandana Square Sleep Center, Dawn received a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) a machine that keeps air flowing to the lungs during sleep to wear nightly.
“It was very hard to get used to because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to breath, ironically, so it took a good couple months to really get used to,”.
Dawn says she is a totally different person after using CPAP therapy nightly.
“ Before, I would just muddle through my day. I was quite often crabby and felt like I was looking through a grey haze.”
A clearer outlook
Dawn's energy and mood throughout the day greatly improved, her vision became clearer, depression subsided and her allergy symptoms became less severe.
“To those of you have had sleep issues affecting your health, I strongly urge you to seek out the help of a sleep specialist. It will truly change your life and the life of your loved ones.”
Before you see a sleep specialist, begin by working with a primary care physician to discuss your concerns. Your doctor may recommend an overnight sleep study, or a polysomnography at an Allina Health Sleep Center. A sleep study can determine whether you have a sleep disorder.
