Cycling, Adaptive

Cycling is an excellent low‑impact workout for people with disabilities, helping improve cardiovascular health, coordination, balance, and strength. Courage Kenny Sports & Recreation offers two adaptive cycling options:

Weekly Rides

We transport an adaptive bike to you for guided weekly rides on paved Twin Cities trails. If you already own a bike and simply want someone to ride with, you’re welcome to join.

Summer Handcycle Loan

Rent a handcycle for the full summer and ride independently or meet us on the trail. A safe indoor storage space is required.

What it is

Weekly Rides

Ride at your own pace with support from a volunteer instructor on paved trails throughout the Twin Cities.

Summer Handcycle Loan

We offer a range of adaptive bikes to meet different physical needs. Summer‑long rentals are available for handcycles only, with priority for new riders. All new riders receive a bike fitting.

Who it is for

Adaptive cycling is designed for individuals with disabilities. We have limited youth handcycles; most bikes fit riders 5'5" and taller.

What to expect

  1. Register for a bike fitting. A bike fitting is required for anyone using Courage Kenny bikes for weekly rides or rentals. Appointments are scheduled individually.
  2. We’ll contact you to schedule your appointment.
  3. At your fitting, you will get on different styles of bikes to determine the best bike(s) for you.
  4. Sign up for weekly rides or a summer handcycle loan once your bike is selected.

If you have your own bike, simply register for weekly rides—you bring the bike, we bring the volunteers.

Good to know

  • Due to limited inventory, trikes are available for group rides only (no summer rentals).
  • During your fitting, you’ll submit your availability for weekly rides.
  • Helmets are required.
